Install Buttplate:
The buttplate was inletted downward on the stock and then
moved forward into the stock. I used candle soot to blacken the plate for
inletting purposes.
This was a photo of the stock whilst in the process of inletting.
When finished, the whole surface was smoothed out and making contact with the
plate.
I positioned the top screw hole 1/3 of the way back from the front of the
plate.
Then I used a pencil to trace the hole onto the top of the
stock,
I found the center of the hole and used a punch to indent a
hole 1/32" forward of the hole center. This will allow the top screw to
pull the top of the plate forward into the stock. Make
sure to drill the pilot hole for the screw perpendicular to the stock.
