Browning the Barrel:

Prior to browning the barrel, I made a sight indicator across the front sight and the barrel. This will aid the shooter when they sight the rifle so they can see when the sight is moved. 2010-07-30 004.JPG (266668 bytes)

The sight was then removed and the barrel was sanded down in stages to 220 grit. Then the flashhole was plugged with a round toothpick and the end of the barrel was plugged with a piece of wood.  I wrap teflon tape around the wooden plug prior to pounding into the barrel. 2010-07-30 011.JPG (232588 bytes)

Browning solution was applied to the barrel and then it was placed into my "Sweat Box". After several days, the barrel acquired a nice brown coating.  The barrel was repeatedly 'carded" during the process to remove excessive rust. When finished the barrel was washed in baking soda solution and washed again. Then the barrel was coated in old motor oil and left to hang.

The same process was applied to the rest of the metal parts.
