Install Patch Box and Lid Assembly: The following photos walk you thru the various steps taken to inlay the patch box and lid assembly.
Trace out the end of the patch box lid onto a piece of brass. Cut out the brass and solder it onto the end of the patch box lid. Drill the hole thru the patch box lid for the pin. Drill thru the lid and into the stock. This will be your pin path into the stock. Place the pin into a vise and set the lid on top of the pin. Counter sink the hole slightly. Peen the top of the pin to widen the pin and fill the countersink in the lid. Now you need to draw a line on the outside of the butt on the wood in alignment of your pin. Align the spring to catch the pin on the wood and remove the wood to inlay the spring. Drill a hole down thru the top of the stock using the line of the top of the patch box for alignment and toward the top area of the spring in the stock. You need to to use a triangular file to create a hook on the spring toward the top and make a counter hook on the pin in the lid. You want them to interconnect with the lid sitting flush and tight against the top of the patch box. Go slowly and remove a minimal amount of material till this happens. Made a spring to act as a lift to spring the lid open when released. Putting a hole in the spring made it easier to install the mounting screw. Movie:
