Mounting Rear Sight & Front Sight: I used the same procedure for installing the front sight as the rear sight illustrated below. The front sight was inletted the thickness of the brass dovetail. The rear sight was inletted the depth of the dovetail on the sight. The front sight was inletted so the front edge of the sight was at least 3/8" from the end of the muzzle of the barrel. I laid the sight against the barrel and drew a line on the barrel to mark the width of the dovetail. Then I cut inside of these two lines to the predetermined depth. Once I had the two cuts made, I used a straight edge or ruler to draw a line between the two cuts. I did this to both sides. Now I can saw several cuts to the same depth. With the cuts completed, I lay the hacksaw sideways against the barrel and cut across the lines to remove the excess material. This is done in both directions. Then I used a triangular file to remove the waste to leave a flattened surface. Using a triangular "safe" file I laid the safe side down against the flat of the barrel and cut into the sides. This cuts the dovetails into the barrel for the sight. Continue placing the sight into the groove till the sight fits tightly. I cut in far enough to the lines I drew earlier marking the outside of the sight dove tails. The sight is tapped into the slot using a small brass rod and a small hammer. Periodically hold the sight and barrel up the light to determine if there is any light showing under the sight, meaning the sight is not sitting fully down into the dovetail. Using your file, make adjustments to the barrel dove tails. If the sight is loose, use a piece of square steel and lay across one of the dove tails and tap the steel bar. This will flatten the curved up edge of the dove tail and tighten your dovetail slot. Do this for both sides of the dove tail.
