I cut along the lines on the stock with a file across the comb. Then I
used a hacksaw to cut down to the lines, then chiseled the excess wood away.
Using cabinet maker files, I filed down to the lines.
Finished filing the buttplate down to the original design.
Then using candle soot I carefully inlet the buttplate down on the stock till
satisfied. Once this was done, I moved the
buttplate forward to fully seat it against the stock. This made a nice tight
fit.
I removed the wood from the patchbox side first and have yet to do the cheek
side. This photo should show you the curvature of the top comb now. Still
a lot of wood to come off yet.
Started more shaping of the buttstock.
I
cut out the patterns for the brass and glued them to the brass so they can be
cut out. The comb and the forearm inlays are .032" brass and the others are
.064".
