The sideplate was inletted into the stock. A #29 drill bit was used to drill a hole in the lock bolster. I measured the distance from the end of the barrel to the bolt location in the sideplate and used this measurement on the bolster to help align the two holes eventually. Small hole was drilled into the side plate. Then using my drill jig , I positioned the side plate down on the jig and used the pilot hole in the lock bolster to drill thru the stock down to the back of the side plate. Once done, I reversed the rifle and drilled down thru the side plate and the holes aligned up perfectly. 

I did the same with the front lock bolt, too. Here I'm using my 8X32 tap to tap into the lock plate. 2010-03-25 006.JPG (228819 bytes)

Here are marks I made on the stock to show how I aligned the forward bolt.
