To install the barrel into the stock, inletted the barrel into the stock and then candle sooted the bottom flat of the barrel to make sure it was marking along the length of the barrel channel in the stock.
Then using candle soot on the end of the barrel I could square up the end wall of the barrel channel
Now I was ready for the tang. However, it had to be shaped to match the original tang on the rifle. Then I screwed the tang into the barrel and filed the bottom of the tang flush with the bottom flat of the barrel. Then made two marks to make it easier to align up the marks again, should the tang be removed later for some reason.
Here I cut and filed the tang to shape, then bent it toe fit the contour of the wrist in the rifle. Next I stared to inlet the tang and barrel into the wrist area.
Here are the black marks left behind when the barrel was removed. I did this several times, removing the black marks till the tang was fully inletted.
Now I took a piece of 1/16" thick brass to make tenons to be dovetailed into the bottom of the barrel. I suspect the original had copper which may have broken or they were not thick enough, which is why they had to brass band the barrel to the stock. Here are are a series of photos of the tenons being made and installed.
Now that the barrel is pinned and the tang is inletted,
let's install the lock.
