Installed toeplate and started shaping the forearm:
The butt plate was removed. Then a centerline was drawn on the stock. Then Brian
started inletting the toeplate into the stock. He used a groove tool to remove
the wood initially and then followed up with a knife to remove the excess
wood.
Once the plate was inletted flat to the surface, the butt plate was
reinstalled. This indicated some of the brass on the butt plate needed to be
removed.
A line was drawn across the lower edge of the butt plate. Then
a flat 'safe' file was used to cut into the side of the buttplate. This made a surface
that was even with the flat of the toeplate inlay and only cut sideways into the
buttplate. This was continued till the toe plate fit in the opening.
Now the plate fits in the opening.
The end of the buttplate was then peened over the top edge of
the toe plate. This pulled the parts together and made a tighter fit. Then
the excess brass was filed away.
The square block on the forearm was finally removed.
The blue painter's tape was put on the gun barrel
to protect it during filing. We put two layers on the barrel.
Then we divided the side into 5ths; filed the stock by rolling the file up
and taking out the lines individually. and lastly we divided it up into 7ths.
