Toe Plate and Side Plate Created and
Installed:
Found a piece of 3/32" sheet
brass and drew out a toe plate to cut out. Made the plate an 1/8" wider on
each side of the stock so when inletted, there would still be brass sticking out
to be filed off.

Drilled 2 holes into the plate and screwed it
to the stock with two #4 screws to hold it for inlaying into the stock.

The end of the butt plate was peened over onto
the toeplate, then lines were drawn down the sides to the trigger guard area.
The lines are 1/16" outside of the rear trigger guard inlet and to the
outside edges of the butt plate heel.

Side Plate Project:
The side plate
was copied off an original Grandstaff rifle stock. Some one in the past
tried to restore it hap-hazardously earlier. However, I was able to
capture the design of the side plate for this rifle.
Since the original was a right handed gun, the
pattern was reversed for a left handed gun.
The pattern was cut out and drilled to aid in
removing as much of the brass as possible to speed up the shaping of the side
plate.
Here
the side plate is cut out and laid onto the stock.
The forward hole was located and drilled in
the side plate. With both bolts in place, the side plate was then inlet into the
stock.
Here are a couple photos showing the process
steps.
